We just got a brand new puppy. When should we start training? Immediately. By starting off your puppy with leadership exercises and some basic obedience, we can start to teach your puppy rules, who the pack leader is, and how to learn. Will you train any breed of dog? Yes! We welcome all breeds of dogs. Yes! A dog is never too old to learn. We do not use one specific method of training. Our trainers learn a variety of methods. That way, we are able to adapt to any situation we may encounter. Yes, a leash, collar and treats. Other equipment may be necessary depending on the temperament of your dog and what you are looking to accomplish. This will be discussed by our trainer and is specific to each situation. What is the difference between Behavior Modification and Dog Training? In our opinion, behavior modification addresses cases like dominance, fear, anxiety, aggression, etc. Dog training on the other hand teaches a dog certain actions in response to commands, i.e. sit, down, come. However, we do use some dog training to help us with behavior modification, if needed. No. If your dog is a happy, balanced dog who is not dominant, aggressive, fearful or anxious, no behavioral modification is needed. I think my dog is deaf! I tell him to come into the house, but he just ignores me! Chances are your dog is not deaf. We just need to teach him a recall command that he must obey each and every time you call him/her. What should I look for in a dog trainer? You want to find somebody who has a love of dogs; somebody who has an education and understanding of obedience, behavior, temperament and communicating with your dog; somebody who is looking to continually educate themselves on new methods; somebody who has experience working dogs of all ages, temperaments, and breeds; someone who can communicate to you as well as your dog; somebody you feel comfortable with. There is no simple answer here. Training your dog is like going to the gym or going on a diet. You have to initially put in some work to get the result you are looking for, but you must continually work on it to maintain it. My puppy still is not house trained! Do you do housetraining? Yes! We can come to your house and do a 45 minute lesson on house training. This lesson is focused more on you as the owner in setting up a program to house train your dog. Do you do group classes or In Kennel trainings? Currently, we only do In Home Lessons. Why do you do In Home Lessons? Convenience. You don’t have to drive to a location and train at their specific times. Customization. Our training programs are designed specific to your situation and your dog. Education. We teach you not only how to work with your dog, but why you are doing what you are doing. Respect. Your dog will learn to respect YOU, because you are doing the training. Cost. By working with you and your dog, you are the focus of the lesson. You are not competing with 19 other people in a group class setting. What if I just want help with one issue? We can do individual lessons or a package of lessons. If you just have one issue that you want to work on, than an individual lesson may be what is best for you. We are not going to try and sell you lessons that you don’t want or need. What type of obedience work do you do? We can help train your dog with basic obedience, like sit, down, stay, come, and walking on a loose leash. Or, we can help you work towards getting your dog certified for the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam, Therapy Dog International exam or AKC obedience trials.
